{"id":821,"date":"2020-10-19T18:07:09","date_gmt":"2020-10-19T18:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lacw.org\/wp\/?p=821"},"modified":"2020-10-19T18:10:12","modified_gmt":"2020-10-19T18:10:12","slug":"bring-back-music-drive-in-concert-oct-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lacwinds.org\/?p=821","title":{"rendered":"Bring Back Music: Drive-in Concert October 24"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #212119; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The Los Alamos Community Winds will host <strong>Bring Back Music \u2013 Los Alamos<\/strong>, a free live concert for the community, on Saturday, October 24. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #212119;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The drive-in style concert will start at 1 p.m. The concert will be held in the north parking lot of Central Park Square, on the corner of 15<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #212119;\"><sup><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">th<\/span><\/sup><\/span><span style=\"color: #212119;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> Street and Nectar Street, in Los Alamos. Registration will be via Eventbrite at <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/bring-music-back-los-alamos-registration-124799357237\"><span style=\"color: #0563c1;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><u>https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/bring-music-back-los-alamos-registration-124799357237<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #212119; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Bring Back Music \u2013 Los Alamos will include performances from The Los Alamos Flute Choir, the Los Alamos Clarinet Quintet, The SaxAtomix, percussionist George Price, and LACW director Ted Vives playing trombone accompanied by pianist Julian Chen. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #212119; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Bring Back Music \u2013 Los Alamos will be performed in a safe, socially distanced environment. Concert attendees will be able to listen to the concert from their vehicles, either live or by tuning into an FM broadcast on their car radios. Restrooms will be available. All other existing New Mexico COVID-19 regulations will be observed.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Members of the community can also watch this <\/span><span style=\"color: #212119;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">live-streamed concert on YouTube at <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/WTB9PyiF9p0\"><span style=\"color: #0563c1;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><u>https:\/\/youtu.be\/WTB9PyiF9p0<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #212119;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #212119; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The Los Alamos Flute Choir is led by Tracey Speyrer. Performers include Heidi Morning, Nina Epperson, Wendy Keffeler, and Jo Ann Howell. The Los Alamos Flute Choir will perform selections arranged for a variety of flutes including the rarely used alto and bass flutes. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #212119; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The SaxAtomix is led by Bryan Fearey. Performers include Adolfo Meana and Sadie Barry on alto saxophone, Joyce Guzik on tenor saxophone, and Paul Lewis on baritone saxophone, and Fearey on soprano saxophone. Selections include arrangements of Queen\u2019s \u201cBohemian Rhapsody\u201d and Henry Mancini\u2019s \u201cThe Pink Panther.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #212119;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The Los Alamos Clarinet Quintet is made up of Patricia Cote, Lori Dauelsberg, Tammie Nelson, and Fearey all on Bb clarinet, with Guzik on the bass clarinet. Selections include \u201cPromenade\u201d from Mussorgsky\u2019s <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #212119;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i>Pictures at an Exhibition<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #212119;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> and Grainger\u2019s \u201cIrish Tune from County Derry.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #212119;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Price will be performing the \u201c5\/8 Etude 7\/8\u201d snare piece by Morris Goldenberg<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #030303;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #212119; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Vives and Chen will be performing Alexandre Guilmant\u2019s \u201cMorceau Symphonique\u201d and Joseph Edouard Barat\u2019s \u201cAndante and Allegro.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #212119; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The LACW would like to thank Central Park Square owner Philip Kunsberg, Los Alamos Creative District, projectY cowork, and the Los Alamos County for making this event possible. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #212119; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The Los Alamos Community Winds released a new CD of performances created this past summer. The CD is entitled \u201cThe Social Distancing Sessions \u2013 Summer 2020 (Music Recorded in a Safe Environment)\u201d and contains 53 minutes of newly recorded and previously unreleased tracks. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #212119; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The newly recorded works were all done by having the musicians record their individual parts at home. The separate recordings were then combined electronically into an ensemble whole. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"Bookmark\"><\/a><span style=\"color: #212119; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"> <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The end result is a live studio recording that highlights a variety of music. Selections on the CD include several marches by John Philip Sousa, a suite of music by the Beatles, Ralph Vaughan-Williams\u2019 English Folk Song Suite, and much more. Also included on the CD are several bonus never-before-released tracks from previous live performances. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #212119;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">All proceeds from the sale of this CD will go toward hosting the 2022 National Convention of the Association of Concert Bands. LACW is teaming up with the Santa Fe Concert Band and the Albuquerque Concert Band to host this national event locally, which will culminate in a public concert by the Canadian Brass on <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Friday, May 6, 2022 at The Lensic in Santa Fe<\/span><span style=\"color: #212119;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #212119;\"><span style=\"font-family: TimesNewRomanPSMT, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The Association of Concert Bands is the umbrella organization that governs community bands and ensembles across the United States and abroad.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Los Alamos Community Winds will host Bring Back Music \u2013 Los Alamos, a free live concert for the community, on Saturday, October 24.
